Note from Arlene: I recently met author Roxana Jones, who just won the 2011 Readers Favorite Award in the General Non Fiction category for her book “While I was Learning to Become God”. Here is my interview with her:
Is any of “While I Was Learning To Become God” fiction?
RJ: The story I present in this book is based on real life events. My intention is to share a message with the world, this is empowering information that leads towards the possibility to forgive the past and open oneself to the God that lives within. I have used Sybil’s life to show a way in which this is achieved. I would say that 20% of the book is fictional having in mind that many people’s names and places were changed and that at the end I used my imagination so that the second book could stay as a real possibility in the reader’s mind until it is published.
What do you hope readers will gain from reading your book?
RJ: I hope they can accept that without forgiveness we can’t heal our lives, that we must learn about self-love before loving others and before we can meet the God that lives in our heart.
What is this “language of the heart” you use so much?
RJ: We live in a materialistic world where Capitalism has taught us that in order to survive we must only learn how to develop our minds. Our education shows us that the only way to be happy is through things and more specifically through one thing: money. Ancient civilizations didn’t lived this way, and in fact, they were much more powerful than what we are nowadays. This is because they knew the power of the heart and their minds was only an assistant of theirs hearts. I believe that the only way the world can change is by using the language of the heart which is love. Not the romantic type of love we all know, love as the energy that moves this universe as a whole, love as the basic component we are all made from, our truest nature.
How long did it take you to write “While I Was Learning To Become God” and what was that process like?
RJ: It took me six months to finish the book. As an autobiographical novel, it was a bit complicated to compress 40+ years of a lifetime into 250+ pages. This process has been one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever lived. Writing is my passion and as such, it has been the ‘job’ that I have enjoyed the most. With this book I have proven myself that one can truly live what one has come here to do and not what others have suggested for one to do. To all those thinking of writing a book, I truly recommend you do so, once a book is finished there is a great feeling of completion, a unique sense of purpose and self-accomplishment.
Will there be a following to this book?
RJ: Yes, I’m currently writing the second book. “While I Was Learning To Become God” is a trilogy. In the first book, Sybil didn’t physically die. There is much more to this story! Two more books are on their way and I will surely keep you updated through my monthly newsletter available at my website www.roxanajones.com/newsletter
