A “different” Valentine’s quote on becoming selfish
In 2009, Vishen Lakshiani, founder of MindValley said the following about the heart:
(Engage Today Conference, September 2009, Calgary, Canada, Full video on Youtube.)
I agree with Vishen! Love is such a misinterpreted energy in our world today, that the majority of us is entirely dedicated right now as you read these words, to the beautiful art of loving others. We have been taught to believe that true happiness is found outside through our relations with others, we think that they are our source of happiness, so since we are little we start dedicating to love (that is: to PLEASE) our family and friends so that we can be loved by them in return. But what if there was another way of receiving that same love that we cherish from others so much, and that way would be to love ourselves with such selfishness that we were able to transform in this type of love which could only attract effortlesly more of that same love?
You see, it is not that I have something against fresh red roses and delicious chocolates hidden in fancy gift boxes, in fact, I love them as much as you do! I am against the belief that we must give something to show our love, I am against the belief that love has a price tag because it is this mindset that keeps us mistakenly searching for love on the outside when real love is inside of us and the only way to have access to it is by willing to become selfish.
Believe me when I say that once you decide to let self-love become your priority, the whole world starts loving you as never before, you emanate so much love that love no longer is something “you must plan to give” because it becomes your permanent state. Remember how rivers are always flowing into the ocean? In the same way your love will inevitably flow into the ocean of eternal love.
Results of this heroic feat? You will constantly BE LOVE AND LOVED! And what’s best: This flowing selfish love is the one that can attract authentic and enduring relationships, the one that can create beautiful and healthy human beings with successful lives and rich and fun businesses and work projects. I think the new generations deserve to witness this type of love through us, don’t you agree?
On this month of February let’s make a promise to our heart that is so thristy for our love, let’s promise that we will make a difference in the world by becoming so selfishly loving that happiness is the only state we shall experience from now on.
Happy Month of Love and Happy Valentine’s Day!
